The honest beauty column
I would have happily ducked my head into an ice bucket or climbed into my freezer during this month’s heat wave. But instead, I turned to some of my fave beauty products that I knew would take the temperature down a notch while also delivering a hydration hit to my parched skin.
Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream, €75 OK, this may be on the pricier side but it’s a heavy hitter when it comes to upping your hydration levels. If you’re still on the fence, here’s the brand’s science bit: “HydraMesh technology infuses your skin with 48 hours of continuous hydration and helps protect against environmental stress.” Or, to put it another way, the lightweight lotion locks in moisture for gorgeous glowy skin that lasts for days. Yes, please.
.
Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate, €37 IF YOU spent most of the heatwave glued to a fan, then you’re going to want to live by the ‘less is more’ mantra when it comes to your hot weather skincare regime. Now is the time to shelve rich, heavy-duty moisturisers and lean into something a little more lightweight. Enter Clinique’s hydrating water gel. This innovative formula eliminates dryness, whilst preventing the visible signs of ageing. Featherlight to the touch, the concentrate glides over skin and absorbs instantly to lock in a veil of long-lasting moisture. This little lovely is also perfect for sensitive skin because it is non-acnegenic, oil-free and fragrance-free. I adore the elegant bottle too — très chic.
.
Skin Proud Frozen Over Gel-to-Ice Hydrator, €23.99 BUY-o your way to cryo with this beauty sell-out. Already a viral hit on TikTok thanks to its clever cooling properties, which hydrate, calm and soften even the most sizzling skin, this gel-to-ice moisturiser is a must when the mercury rises. Use it at room temperature for an instant hit of hydration, or pop it in the freezer for 3 hours for a chill-axing mask for tired and puffy skin. Packed with anti-inflammatory aloe vera and hydrating hyaluronic acid, you’re going to want to free up your freezer. Available at ASOS now.
.
Avène Thermal Spring Water, €9.95 GIVE your skin a drink with this ultra-hydrating water spray. This baby goes with me everywhere — I pull it out after training and have it beside my desk to cool me during the day. Spritz your face and neck before applying your skincare in the morning to prep the skin and give it a hydrating boost. It has a quick-dry formula and is deliciously refreshing.
.
La Roche-Posay HyaluB5 Anti-Wrinkle Concentrate, €31.99 WHAT other product works to quench the complexion while also giving your skin a bouncy texture? This hero serum of course. As if that wasn’t enough, the hyaluronic acid-packed concentrate softens the look of fine lines, while vitamin B5 defends against external aggressors. A harder working serum you will not find.
.
Ultraceuticals Ultra B2 Hydration Mask, €95 (pack of 5) IF you need to combat dull, dehydrated skin fast, this gel mask is designed to hydrate and visibly plump skin in under 15 minutes. Available from ultraceuticals.com, it’s packed with skin-loving ingredients like niacinamide and chamomile for the ultimate glow-up. Pop it in the fridge for a few minutes first to chill out even more.
.
Stylpro Facial Ice Globes, €39.95 PULL out this pair of icy cold globes when the sun comes out to play. These massage aids reduce inflammation, de-stress the skin and give that lusted-after post-facial glow. They also improve lymphatic drainage while lifting and tightening the skin. Can I get a hallelujah? They’re best stored in the fridge to keep that optimal cool temperature.
